Warning
titleDO NOT REQUEST FOR PAPER DELETION

If you have not received a report for either case below,
do not ask your instructor to delete the paper
nor should you delete the paper yourself (if applicable)
.

If you do so and then resubmit, a new paper will be created. It may be flagged as similar to your initial submission.

This will cause alarm, but it is not an issue if you can show you submitted both papers. Refer to:

Initial submission

The first similarity report is usually ready within minutes, but it can take up to 24 hours for Turnitin to generate.

Info

Your classmate(s) may have received his/her report within minutes.

However, this should not be used as a gauge as to when you will receive your report.

You may also check if your instructor has set the Turnitin assignment folder to allow you to view the similarity reports. You can also view if resubmissions are allowed.

Please click the (1) Summary tab in your Turnitin assignment folder, and look under (2) Additional Settings.

If you believe the settings do not align with the instructor's intentions, please inform your instructor that s/he should change the Turnitin assignment settings.

Resubmissions

Info

From 17 Jan 2018, Turnitin generates instant Similarity Reports for up to three resubmissions. This replaces their previous policy of enforcing a 24-hour delay from the first resubmission.

You are allowed three resubmission attempts where the Similarity Report will generate immediately.

After three attempts, you'll have to wait 24 hours before a new Similarity Report can be generated.

If you have triggered the 24-hour delay and resubmit a paper less than 24 hours before your deadline, you will not receive the revised similarity report before the deadline.

Info

These are Turnitin-imposed restrictions. CIT is not able to do anything about this.

If you are not able to resubmit, please note that not all instructors allow resubmissions. Student can check if they are allowed to resubmit in the Turnitin Assignment Summary. Refer to the screenshot on the left.

Also, please do not resubmit during the 24-hour delay, this means that you reset the clock - you will only get a report 24 hours after your latest resubmission.

Report not generated after 24 hours?

To reiterate:

  • For initial submissions, there is no issue until 24 hours after submission.
  • For your first three resubmissions, while reports should be generated immediately, they could take up to 24 hours to generate.
  • For the fourth resubmission onward, there is a mandatory 24-hour wait until a report is generated.

In any case of these cases, if a similarity report is not generated after 24 hours, please submit a help request to Turnitin.
