Females require a high protein diet in order to continually produce eggs

Reproduction

Males physically chase females around, and try to grasp them by the back of their neck feathers and jump on them to initiate insemination.

Uses

Food

The eggs of C. coturnix are often harvested and eaten and are popular across the globe as they are produced at a very high and consistent rate (about 1 egg per day). They are also reared for their meat.
