C. coturnix prefers foods that are in shades of greens, blues, and browns but does not like red, orange or yellow colored foods. They also consumer worms and other insects.

Males physically chase females around, and try to grasp them by the back of their neck feathers and jump on them to initiate insemination

The eggs of C. coturnix are often harvested and eaten and are popular across the globe as they are produced at a very high and consistent rate (about 1 egg per day). They are also reared for their meat.
