Yes, unfortunately more applications require one of the .Net frameworks to work nowadays.

That is the main difference between screen capture software and screen recording software. Infact, some screen capture software like Snagit can work as screen recording software, but there is no editing function for the video. And some screen capture software like DemoCreator can work as screen capture software. It can import the certain frame as images with some decoration. When two become one, it is more convenient.
