Overview

We do not provide direct links to the files as the links change when the version number changes.

Step 1: Download Audacity

• Go to Audacity for Windows.
  
• You will see the following screen.
  
  
• Click System Requirements if you are not sure whether your computer will run Audacity.
• Click Audacity (version number) installer.
  
• Save the file to the Desktop.

Step 2: Install Audacity

• Open (double click) the Audacity installer (.exe) file, which you saved on your Desktop.
  
• Follow the installation instructions.
  
• Once installed, you can find Audacity in Start > All Programs > Audacity (in Windows XP, as in screenshot below).
  
  
• Delete the Audacity installer file from your Desktop.

Step 3: Download LAME encoder

Why do I have to install the LAME encoder? Audacity needs the LAME encoder to create files in mp3 format.

• Go to the LAME encoder page.
  
• Scroll down the page until you see For Audacity on Windows, as shown below.
  
  
• Click Lame (version number) for Audacity on Windows.exe.
  
• Save the file to the Desktop.

Step 4: Install LAME encoder

• Open (double click) the LAME installer (.exe) file, which you saved on your Desktop.
  
• Follow the installation instructions.
  
• Once installed, delete the LAME installer from your Desktop.
