As we all know, due to the scarcity of land and the lack of resources, it is extremely important for Singapore to have sustainable development. Currently, we have plans to implement solutions for this problem, such as recycling of organic waste besides dumping them to landfills.
However organic waste, which is primarily food waste in Singapore is not recycled very effectively.Statistics in 2006 from the National Envromental Agency (NEA) showed that food waste amounts up to 10.4% of the total waste output. Majority of the food waste ends up in incineration plants. Only 8% of this food waste is recycled. This showed that more could be done to improve food waste recycling to support sustainable development practices in Singapore.
Hence, this study seeks to determine the viability of implementing more food recycling plants as well as to increase the awareness of organic waste recycling in Singapore.
The purpose of this proposal is to explain to URA on the need to work closely with IUT to increase the awareness of Singaporeans to bring about an increase in the amount of food waste recycled.
We intend to design a one-stop website for information on food recycling (benefits, importance of sustainable development etc, how people can help etc)

Hi Team Green,
I see a promising idea here.
My comment in blue below:

Currently, we do check for clarity - 'we' refers to Singapore or your team? have plans to implement solutions for this problem, such as recycling of organic waste besides dumping them to landfills.

Or? to bring about an increase in the amount of food waste recycled.

This seems like a project URA will be interested in. Do relate it to the URA's objective for the launch of the Concept Plan 2011, i.e. to maps out the long term directions for Singapore's land use and transportation plans over the next 40 to 50 years ensuring that there is sufficient land to meet long-term population and economic growth while providing a good quality living environment.

Hi Ms.Lim,
For your information, Singapore Goverment do have plan for sustainable development, which can be found under this website. Actually, what the goverment is aiming is having zero landfill, as quoted from Ministry of Environmental and Water Resources's Singapore Green Plan 2012: "Towards that end, a national waste recycling programme, with a target to achieve 60 percent recycling by 2012, began in 2001, bringing the means to recycle closer to homes and workplaces", So they do that statement is a fact.
From what we found online, IUT Singapore does not have a contract with the goverment yet. However, the target group might need to be refined, and we will update on that later

Plus, I feel that the website objective is might not be very relevant to the research subject. Perhaps it can serve as a place to show proof on why UIT and Singapore government should cooperate? Am I wrong ?
